Connecting too / Setting up Boards within classrooms

Modified on Tue, 21 Jan at 8:23 AM

Within Marling Classroom, there is a standardised setup throughout the school. Meaning this document should apply to any classroom you are required to work in.

Please note, there are certain requirements that need to be met for boards to work as expected. I have attached a few screenshots below, showing the correct and incorrect way of physically connecting your device to the dock.

Incorrect

Correct

Once the board is connected correctly, You should hear a windows chime. Showing that the board has been recognised and connected.

The next steps can be confusing and a lot to remember, so we recommend getting comfortable doing these steps. Practice makes perfect.

Above is a screenshot of the display settings panel. This is where all configuration/settings will be configured.

You can access this page by either going to Settings -> System -> Display

or

By right clicking on the home screen, and clicking the Display settings highlighted below.

A lot of confusion when connecting to the boards is regarding screen setup (Mirroring or Duplicating) and in what order they are duplicated.

The best format we have found for teaching and learning, Is to duplicate your laptop screen too your board while keeping your desk screen as your personal / secure screen.
What this then means is, anything displayed on your laptop, will be displayed to students and anyone with view of the board whilst anything displayed on your desk screen is private and secure.
Below is a list of steps you should follow to best setup your board in your classroom.

Step 1. Press the Windows Key + P and set it too extend. This sets each screen to its own configuration. Meaning no two screens are duplicated. This gives you a base line to refer too when configuring your device.

I have attached a screenshot below. Outlining how each screen should appear on this page.

Step 2. In the screenshot above. You can see each screen is associated with a number. This number will be the method you use when trying to determine which screen within your settings translate to the physical screen in your classroom.

By pressing the Identify button, a number will appear in the bottom left . Please be aware that the numbering may slightly change between classrooms and configuration.

Lets create an example:

Laptop Screen: No. 1
Interactive Board Screen: No. 2
Desk Screen: No. 3

In my example. I would click and highlight the board screen as shown below. I would then set it to duplicate screen 1 & 2 .

If you have completed these steps accurately. You should have a screen similar to the one attached below.
