Hardware - My Computer is Slow

Modified on Thu, 30 May at 10:21 AM

This article includes some tips for when you have reported that your computer is slow. This may include links to other Concero articles.

1) Restart your computer - Your computer may require restarting if it has been left switched on for a few days. In Windows 10/11, the computer has not been restarted if it has been shut down.

2) Check for updates - Checking for updates can clear any pending updates as well as patch any known issues with your Windows operating system. This also allows you to check for driver updates which instructs your hardware components to work in a more effective way. Check for Updates.

3) Close unused applications/tabs - If your computer is still running slow, it may be of a lower specification or be quite old which means it may be able to run less programs at a time. Close Google Chrome/Microsoft Edge tabs as well as other programs which are open and not being used.

If you have been through the following, we may need to take a look at your device to establish if it is a deeper issue or an issue around:

- Broadband speed.

- A new device needs purchasing .

- Other infrastructure such as WiFi points.
